This project consisted of the refurbishment of the previous Limerick Trustees Bank, also known as “The Stone Jug” on the corner of Catherine Street and Glentworth Street, Limerick.

The main aspects of the refurbishment works included damp-proofing of the Basement, Structural Alterations at Ground & 1st floor level, a refurbished roof structure & new roof finishes together with a complete refurbishment of the building interior. Externally, a new glazed guarding was provided in addition to a cantilevering landing to service the disabled access lift.

Dennany Reidy Associates acted as consulting civil & structural engineers for the project. Please see below a number of images of the completed works:

The Paper was titled:  “Visible Means of Restraint” and outlines a novel way which we devised for providing lateral restratint to a cantilevering emedded retaining wall. The Piled wall was constructed in Dublin Port where we desigined a new Roll on / Roll off Ramp jetty.

Our scope of works included the Structural Design of the Pavillion Building, Structural Design of the Foundations to the Tensile Roof Structure and the Civil Engineering design of the new courtyard & associated drainage.

The Architects for the Project were Healy Partners Architects Limerick. The client was the Limerick Market Trustees. The Milk Market Development has proved to be a huge success in Limerick City and DRA are delighted to have contributed to the success of this development. This project consisted of the installation of a new, high tensile membrane roof structure over the existing courtyard of the historical Milk Market in Limerick. Also as part of the project, a new steel framed pavillion building was constructed which houses permanent market stalls and a mezzanine floor overlooking the revamped market courtyard. The entire courtyard was refurbished including new foul & surface water sewers & new polished concrete slabs.

Dennany Reidy Associates acted as consulting civil & structural engineers for the project. As part of our brief, we designed the foundation system for the tensile roof structure. The roof structure is stressed and exerts high vertical & horizontal loads into the foundations. The design of the foundations also had to take into account the close proximity of the protected milk market units around the courtyard. Also, the medieval city walls were exposed underneath parts of the market courtyard. Our foundation solution included the installation of a system of vertical & raking tension & compression piles with a pile cap below ground level. Reinforced concrete elements were designed to connect the pile cap & the roof structure tripods at the 4 corners of the courtyard.

Dennany Reidy Associates were also responsible for the re-design of the courtyard foul & surface water sewers and market slab construction. DRA also carried out the structural design of the Pavillion building.

This project consisted of the upgrade of the current protected structure and the provision of a foul water drainage scheme & treatment unit.

This project consisted of the construction of a new Roll-on / Roll-Off  ramp at Dublin Port. New Piled retaining Walls & bank seats were  to our design & specifications. We also carried out supervision of the construction of the project.

This project consisted of the refurbishment of the former “Lenister Arms” public house. The premises is now the successful Mantra Bar & Night Club. Our Services included the structural design of the refurbishment works. We also carried out supervision of the construction of the development.

This project consisted of the construction of a new Industrial Building within the existing Airport Business Park, Waterford. Our Services included the structural design of the building and provision of site services. We also carried out supervision of the construction of the development.
